Fantasy Football Web App
A fantasy league web app for a local community league football team (Oak Flats Kraken). Built with Vanilla JS, Firebase NoSQL databases and login/sign-up authentication.
The problem
Manual spreadsheet tracking is a chore
The season before this web app was made, Oak Flats Kraken's community league football team organised the scoring and points for their friendly fantasy competition manually in an excel spreadsheet. The organiser had to chase up and track everyone's picks each week, calculate points and create graphics to put in a group chat to update the players on the results.
This was tiresome, cumbersome and inconvenient. The administration side of what should be a friendly team competition was sucking the fun out of itself every week.
The solution
No more calculating or chasing up team picks
The KFL web app needed to address the main administration headache of the existing spreadsheet solution.
1. Tracking each person's picks
2. Remembering what needs to be kept track of after every game
3. Calculating the points for each player from the game
4. Tallying the points for each player for fantasy
5. Displaying the results each week
KFL was built with Firebase Authentication sign-up and login with email so all players of the game could log-in to the web app from any device to pick/update their players and see the ladder. This removed the headache of managing players picks and points. A simple Admin access panel allowed the designated admin to put in the required data after each game with a simple input form and allowed for calculation of points, tallying of scores and displaying the ladder all occuring with a click of one button. The tech stack of the web app means it runs seamlessly within any modern browser on any device. The KFL web app reduced admin time each week from over an hour down to about five minutes.
